This signature course concentrates on arguably the most important business and life skill: communicating more effectively. Ty Boyd’s Excellence in Speaking Institute® (ESI) is an entertaining, interactive class where participants prepare short talks on simple topics. Limited to a small group for maximum effectiveness and personal instruction, this 2 ½ day course provides an experiential learning experience. Our approach to speaking and presenting combines peer review with professional coaching. Participants are on their feet presenting several times throughout the course. Presentations are videotaped and reviewed one-on-one with an executive faculty member for personalized coaching.

"Public Speaking has always been my ultimate fear in life and I have fought and struggled with it daily, and somehow have made it to a level of success that I could never imagine. This fear goes back 40 + years as I can remember vividly, having to do a book report in the 4th grade, being in front of my classmates preparing to begin my book report and I gasped and then froze in front of my classmates due to the fear. I walked back to my desk with my head down due to embarrassment of not being able to complete my report. On that bright sunny day in the fourth grade, it became a dark and humbling experience for me, because I found a unknown fear (Public Speaking). To this day, I continue to struggle with the fear of Public Speaking but have improved to some degree. I've fought through this fear with practice and determination, as I have become a State Farm Agent and also an Elected Official in Wytheville, VA. Both of these high profile positions require a considerable amount of public speaking, which I avoid as much as possible but I do eventually perform this duty with great anxiety. Life has taught me that all great leaders and communicators have this crucial skillset so improving this weakness is critical for me to maximize my total potential.

Unfortunately, at this point in my life I know my limits have been reached with my current Public Speaking abilities and my opportunity to advance is narrowing. If I could improve this skillset and become a better communicator and public speaker, I feel that I could further my career with State Farm and also my leadership skills in the community. With that said, In my continuous effort to better myself, I participated in a online seminar that was given by Jeffrey Gitomer, during his seminar he recommended Ty Boyd's program stating it was one of the best in the nation.
